Dr Hawkins Obituary

Everyone at Heywood Family Practice was sad to hear the news of the death of Dr. Ian Hawkins.

Dr Hawkins joined Heywood Surgery in 1962. He came to Pill with his wife Veronica. For many years they lived in the house across the road from the Surgery with their family of five children.

Dr Hawkins was a wonderful and caring doctor. He always took the extra time to listen carefully to patients' concerns and worries. During his career as a GP he delivered safely many babies both at home and in St Brendan's Maternity Unit.

The original surgery was in a small bungalow opposite his house but in 1985 Dr Hawkins and the other doctors developed the building to give better care to local people. This development was the stepping stone to the purpose built surgery we have today.

After his retirement, after 30 years as a GP, Dr and Mrs Hawkins travelled extensively visiting their children spread all over the world. Sadly Veronica died in 2013, but in his later years he lived in Portishead and enjoyed walking and meeting people from Pill.

We all regard him with great love and respect and we were pleased as the Heywood team to be able to pay our respects by clapping as his hearse passed through the village. He will be greatly missed by everybody.
